Symbiosis School of Economics

Founded in 2008, Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE) is a dynamic institution, with a demonstrable record of success, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Economics. The curriculum is designed and upgraded periodically to enhance the employability of our graduates in sectors such as public and private enterprises, banking and financial services, government, consulting, academia and NGOs. This very niche Institute seeks to develop intellectual discipline, critical and analytical assessment, which will result in rational thinking, along with an understanding of the need for constrained optimization, and a strong urge to strive towards achieving equilibrium. The SSE tries to achieve these goals in an educational environment committed to excellence and academic freedom. The environment here is disciplined and demanding, at the same time giving plenty of scope for creativity, originality and student initiatives. Unique aspects of the institute are the centers it runs for students. The Centre for Academic Writing offers numerous facilities to students for academic writing whereas the Centre for Quantitative Learning and Applications supports researchers at advanced level.

PLACEMENTS 2016-17

This year again, many of the companies which visited for campus recruitment have been hiring from SSE for the past few years. New recruiters are Equitas bank, Ernst & Young and Deloitte. The average package offered to BSc and MSc graduates has increased this year.

Placements Overview

The Placement Cell, guided by a set of rules and principles strives to maintain warm relation with firms. Preparing the recruitment schedule for the year, inviting firms for pre-placement talks on campus followed by final placements, and overseeing the process to its end are responsibilities that the Placement Cell endeavors to carry out successfully.

The Placement Cell at Symbiosis School of Economics works in close coordination with its faculty advisor and provides a platform for students seeking recruitment to interact with possible recruiters on the campus.

Final Placements at SSE is considered to be an important dimension of educational attainment and therefore is accorded high priority. The Director and a team of highly-qualified senior faculty oversee the implementation of the placement related work agenda.

These organizations have offered internships and final placements to our students. It is a conscious effort on the part of SSE to expand the network of association, so as to reflect synergies between the academic training and research/industry needs.

Placement Cell Activities

The Placement Cell conducts a number of activities to help students prepare for their careers after graduation. Each final year BSc and MSc student attend a career counseling session to help them understand and make choices from the various opportunities available. Students are encouraged to attend follow-up counseling sessions to help their decision-making process. The Placement Cell arranges workshops on other important aspects of preparing for placements like CV writing, Aptitude Tests, Mock interviews & Group discussions, Grooming and Etiquette, speaking skills & body language, an impact of current affairs on business & economy etc.

Internships

All BSc And MSc students are required to complete an internship as a requirement of their coursework. The Placement Cell assists students in applying for internships. The aim of the internship is to widen the student’s perspective and to help them understand the real-life implications of the theoretical frameworks learned in class. It gives the students an opportunity to experience and appreciate real-world challenges in the areas of research and business.

The Internship selection process starts in the month of December. Selection is typically based on the written tests, student research papers, and personal interview.
