Introduction:
Symbiosis Law School (SLS) was established in 1977 under the illustrious banner of Symbiosis Society. It is a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) which is accredited by NAAC with 'A' grade. It has grown in stature to become one of the premier institutions imparting high quality legal education in India, through its various programs such as B.A., LL.B, B.B.A., LL.B, Master of Laws (LL.M.), and fourteen different Diploma programs.
SLS has been ranked 5th by Outlook and ranked 6th by India Today- Nielsen Survey in 2009. The curriculum is cutting-edge responding to the emerging trends in profession, business and community. The curriculum and pedagogy are designed around the latest quality initiatives including recommendations of the Carnegie Mellon Report, USA. Its efforts are reciprocated by the participation of all the stakeholders including the members of bar and bench, corporate sector and international experts. Impressive international collaborations across UK, USA and Europe have brought in the membership of International Association of Law Schools, USA and the Asian Law Institute, Singapore. It is the only Indian partner with the Erasmus Mundus global consortium of Law Schools. Recently DAAD, Germany has selected SLS for funding 'New Passage to India' Program with Leibniz University of Hanover.
With significant number of scholarships including the SC/ST top class education scholarships from the Government of India and support through mentor system, the institute continues with its commitment to the cause of student support and progression. The Microsoft IPR Chair has been established at SLS and SLS students are also the recipients of the Microsoft scholarship. SLS strongly emphasizes research and publication through various law journals and research projects where students contribute. Its social agenda is honored by the recently launched Community Legal Services Network and Legal Development in collaboration with the City University of New York Law School, USA and the prison research project.
Symbiosis Law School won the prestigious 'Nobel Quiz contest' organized by the Embassy of Sweden. The SLS student team was one of the four teams that represented India for the Philip Jessup Moot in 2009 at Washington, USA. Various student activities including cultural festivals are led by the Student Council. Students have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities and extra- curricular activities which include moot courts, elocution, debates, and quizzes besides cells such as Human Rights Cell, Ecocon, Lawecon, Techlegal and Legal Aid Cell. One of the major highlights of the activities organized by the Students Council was 'Symbhav' the annual student festival. SLS is always in the process of grooming student leadership which is nurtured by the faculty leadership and unique young professional training programme offered throughout the programme.
SLS endeavors to secure all-round contributions to the betterment of the field of Law; to create world class professionals, to produce committed academicians, to train justice dispensers, to invigorate community crusaders and, to create a strong watershed of new and upcoming expertise in law relating to business and corporate context.

Learning Resources-
These resources facilitate activities in tune with the vision and mission.
Library-
The Symbiosis Law School library, with a vast collection of books, journals, periodicals and magazines, is a prime source for legal research for both the faculty as well as the students. Augmenting traditional print resources with expanding electronic sources and technologies, the library offers fully integrated, dynamic environment. Housed at the ground floor of the Symbiosis Law School building, library provides the solitude and comfort. It also provides extensive technology based learning resources with legal databases such as Manupatra, SCC online, Lexis-Nexis, Hein-on- line and Westlaw. Students benefit from privileges of home- lending, book bank and supply of study material.
Computer Lab:
Symbiosis Law School campus is a Wi-Fi campus. It has two sate-of-the-art Computer Centers, separate for UG and PG program. The Labs are fully equipped for wireless data transmission. Further, the students are encouraged to buy laptops at concessional rates which encourage the use of technology.
Other Facilities:
All classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors & Wi - Fi connections. The School also has a well equipped AC auditorium-cum-moot court hall, with the seating capacity of 150. There is a multi-media conference hall with the seating capacity of 50 to conduct, interactive sessions seminars and workshops. Students train their talents through various curricular and extra curricular activities enabled through Committees and Cells. These include debates, sports, quizzes, mock Parliament, mock United Nations, dance-music, moot courts and client counseling
Health Services and Health Insurance:
The Law School campus has an excellent Health Center, which provides all emergency health services. All the students are covered under a unique and novel medical insurance scheme .There is well equipped and modern gymnasium available within the campus

Diploma
There are fourteen Part-time one year Diploma Programs and two Post-Graduate Diploma Programme available as value- addition. Many students pursue these programs alongside their Undergraduate or Masters Program.
Methods of Instruction:
The medium of instruction is English. The instruction method is essentially learner-centric, which includes lectures, Socratic methods, field visits, seminars, group discussions, simulations, case studies, moots, mock trials and ICT-enabled learning by the international guest faculty and guest sessions by the stalwarts of the field.
The Method of Assessment:
SLS follows the CGPA system of assessment. Assessment consists of various internal components such as ongoing tutorials/tests, assignment, group discussions, workshops, stimulation, viva voce and presentation. The external examination is characterized by objective questions and subjective questions.
Placements:
The Placement Cell was established in 2000 and proved its mettle year after year. It has been instrumental in providing the students with training and the finest opportunities. In 2008-09 the placement procedure started at the very outset of the academic year with screening procedure, whereby 150 students were short listed by a panel of experts from industry. The placement training was organized by cell throughout the year and the students were trained, groomed and chiseled to be the best, with the combination of managerial and leadership skills and a broad range of professional skills such as advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and advisory. The placement cell invited various industries and reputed firms for campus recruitment by maintaining a very cordial relationship with all of them. As a result, even during recession period the cell has managed to place 65 students, till today. The cell is sensitized to function through out the year towards generating placement opportunities from various sectors including PSUs, law firms, banking and finance companies, LPOs, judiciary and insurance.

Career Outlook:
After initial assessment through elaborate psychometric tests, assessment and screening process the students get training, orientation and experiential learning through internships in industry, High Courts, Supreme Court and Non-governmental organizations. With such methods of learning by doing and well structured progressive development plan, the student can look forward to a lucrative and rewarding career with various options such as Judiciary, Corporate practice, Litigation, Law teaching, Legal Process Outsourcing, and Administrative services.

Eligibility: For B.A. and B.B.A. LL.B.:
The candidate should have passed 12th (10+2) examination from any recognized board with minimum 50% marks (45% for S.C. /S.T. students) in one attempt (No Compartment). Students who have appeared for their H.S.C finals and awaiting results are also eligible to apply, subject to submission of passing certificate by the announced date.
Age Limit:
Candidate should be less than 20 years of age at the time of appearing for SET as on 02 May 2010. (2 years relaxation for SC/ST candidates i.e. 22 years)
Intake Limit for Pune:
The total intake is 200 seats (Inclusive of 150 seats of B.B.A. LL.B. and 50 seats of B.A. LL.B.)
NB:
Subject to statutory approval, seats will be available in the 5 years Law program in Noida Campus, by June 2010.
