Introduction:
Symbiosis Institute of Technology being the flagship institute of the prestigious Symbiosis International University has set high standards for itself. The Institute endeavors to provide quality education in line with the requirements of today's competitive industry and rapid developments in technology. The Institute provides an environment conducive for harnessing the potential of faculty and students through systematic and effective learning both within and outside the classrooms. The roadmap developed for the institute envisions it to acquire the status of a prestigious Institute of Technology at National level.
Among the initiatives taken to make SIT one of the most sought after institutes of technical education in the country are, recruitment of highly qualified and experienced faculty, their continual professional growth through organizing and attending conferences and publications of research papers; regular revision of curriculum in line with fast changing need of industry; employing innovative methods of teaching, providing ample opportunities for learning outside the classroom through projects, techfests and cultural programmes
SIT offers four year B.Tech Degree Programs in:

2. Computer Science
3. Electronics and Telecommunication
4.Mechanical Engineering
The institute plans to introduce new and specialized programs at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels in the near future. Doctoral level programmes have commenced from the year 2011-2011 in various specialized areas of Civil, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering. About 35 PhD students are carrying out research in emerging areas of science, engineering and technology.

Infrastructure
Symbiosis Institute of Technology is located at Lavale on the foot hills in Symbiosis Knowledge Village which also houses Symbiosis International University. State of the art infrastructure includes spacious classrooms fitted with multimedia, well-equipped laboratories, auditorium, seminar rooms, an amphi-theatre, conference rooms, canteen and common rooms for students. Well constructed spacious hostels with all necessary amenities, playgrounds, gymnasium, facilities for indoor games like TT, squash, badminton, billiards and a food court together with availability of round the clock power supply and the pleasant weather of Pune make stay on the campus, comfortable and conducive for learning.

Programmes offered:
Symbiosis Institute of Technology offers four year full time B-Tech programme in the following fields:
The B-tech programme aims at transforming a student into rare combination of academic excellence and research aptitude. This programme with its intensive syllabus and a wide range of value addition module indeed enable students to immediately go for jobs or for higher studies in India and abroad. Being a professional programme, it ensures a healthy balance between theoretical foundation and
practical exposure for a successful career.
Placement
The institute has a very well organized placement cell under the leadership of Mrs. Meena Laad. The infrastructure in placement cell includes; a seminar hall for conducting pre-placement talks, discussion rooms, interview rooms and other necessary amenities and support. The cell has already established contact with a large number of renowned companies who have desired to visit the institute for campus recruitment. All the students of the present third year have been prepared for campus interviews through special programmes on technical and soft skills, which would help them get prestigious jobs.
Method of Instruction
The institute employs a very effective and interactive teaching-learning process using most recent teaching aids including multimedia. Curriculum has been developed considering the present and future needs of industry and higher education. Academic bodies designing and monitoring teaching-learning process have renowned industrialists as active members. Teachers prepare detailed blow ups, lab manuals and course files to ensure the effectiveness of teaching-learning process. A salient feature of the curriculum is a six month project semester totally devoted to carry out projects in the industry.
Students of all under graduate programmes will spend six months in industry, other organizations, renowned institutions and universities, both in India and abroad, as a part of their curriculum. They will take up projects in various areas in industry to augment their theoretical learning. The emphasis during the "Project Semester" is to expose the students to real life problems in their chosen field of work and finding their solutions, using a systematic and logical approach employing latest tools, techniques and technologies.
All students of SIT can opt for and qualify a special Diploma in Business Management from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, a premiere Institute of Management in the country. This arrangement gives the students an insight into basic functions of management like marketing, finance, human resource and operations, in addition to polishing their communication and interpersonal skills. The students are exposed to these aspects at an early age as compared to the students of other management programmes. This helps a great deal in making the learnt concepts and techniques of management to become a part of their personality and their normal way of life.
Industry Interface It is necessary to give the students an insight of the practical aspect of theory learnt in the Institute. The institute right from its inception has ensured industrial participation in curriculum development, guest lectures, student trainings and internships. Being a constituent of Symbiosis International University (SIU) the institute has access to a large number of industrial organizations visiting SIU every year.
Research and Development
SIU has started PhD Programmes in Engineering with effect from the academic year 2011-2011. Undergraduate students will also get an opportunity to work on some sub-area of larger research problems, as their major or minor projects. The institute is presently in the process of procuring necessary equipment and facilities in the identified research areas.
Profile of past students
The institute being in its third year of existence, no students have yet passed out. However the students admitted in the previous three years have come from various parts of the country and diverse culture. They have, in general, a very good background including schooling and have made SIT, a vibrant place conducive for peer learning.

Symbiosis International University has, as its constituents, some of the most renowned institutes in the area of management, law and foreign language learning institutes. Eligibility
Indian Students
i) 10+2 or equivalent from any statutory board with 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).
i) For SC/ST candidates 55% aggregate in PCM is required.
Good Scores in any one of the following entrance exams: IIT-JEE, AIEEE, MH-CET or Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET).
Foreign Nationals/Non Resident Indians
10+2 or equivalent from any statutory board, with 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).

Important dates:
Symbiosis Entrance Test 2011 is scheduled on 7th May 2011.
The admissions of the eligible candidates to B-Tech programmes of the Institute will be based on the merit in any one of the following entrance exams (SET, IIT-JEE, AIEEE, MHT-CET) through open counseling, in which the candidate has to be physically present on the date of counseling along with his original certificates. The details of counseling procedures and documents required will be available on the Institute website. The counseling dates for admission through various entrance examinations are given below:

All the above dates have been decided based on the announced dates of the entrance exams and declaration of results.
However, the counseling dates are liable to change as a result of a change in the date of entrance exams and/or declaration of results. All applicants are requested to visit the Institute website for any update on counseling dates.
Registration Dates
Only the registered candidates will be able to participate in the counseling for admission. The registration dates for the Institute counseling will start along with the start date of Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET). |
