The definition of media has undergone a radical change in recent times. The shift is not merely technological but that of perception of society about media and the awareness of the potential that lies in the active participation in the creation of media. The potential to transform society by challenging and changing the norms constantly, by resorting to the voice that is present within us, to express what is felt and it is this active expression which makes us human.

Through our programme, Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication), we offer a comprehensive experience through traditional academic learning & research with cyber & experiential learning.
These are provided with overhead LCD projectors and public-address systems.
These are acoustically sealed, split air-conditioned mini-auditoriums with wall-to-wall carpeting and provided with overhead LCD projection systems and Dolby / DTS 7.1 surround sound system.
The shooting floor along with a Production Control Room (PCR) is acoustically sealed and air-conditioned. The same is equipped with lighting equipment including Canara overhead moveable lighting grid with cool flood lights, spotlights, Kino lights, shadow casters & light meters. It has multiple digital cameras (Panasonic DVX102, Panasonic AG-AF100 & Canon 5D Mark III with lenses). It also has a Teleprompter for news reading apart from a multi-channel digital audio mixer.
Four air-conditioned cubicles, as well as a post-production laboratory, are equipped with non-linear edit systems to provide professional level post-production facilities. The same has the following facilities – Four MacPro machines with FCP and 10 iMac machines with Adobe Premier CS5. Additional software includes Adobe after Effects, Adobe Photoshop, & FCE.
The air-conditioned and acoustically balanced practical-demo suite has an industry-standard multi-track sound recording and reproduction set-up. It is equipped with audio mixing consoles like Yamaha MG166cx, Xenyx 802, Yamaha MG82cx & Eurorack UB880. The suite also has a pair of powered audio monitors - Yamaha HS80M and two pairs of Yamaha MSP3. Nuendo 5 is the preferred audio software used to record and reproduce recorded audio files here. The laboratory has an additional 10 iMac machines for training.
The air-conditioned photography studio combines both manual and digital facilities. It has the latest SLR & DSLR cameras with all types of professional lenses, tripods & other accessories. The studio is equipped with professional studio lights, light meters and other essential lighting equipment apart from a motorised backdrop changer. It also has an iMac with contemporary photo editing software for digital imagery.
The air-conditioned D&P room is equipped for manual black & white film developing and printing. It has a chemical laboratory for negative film development apart from & enlargers for photo printing.
The air-conditioned computer laboratory has 40 terminals equipped with Pentium IV processor driven CPUs connected to LCD screens / overhead LCD projector. The laboratory is fully networked and provides high-speed broadband connectivity, with power back-up. A variety of Publishing, Post Production and Design Technology software are available. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. All desktops and server are fully protected with upgraded anti-virus software.
The library has a well-stocked collection acquired since its inception, and covering a broad span of technical and nontechnical subjects pertaining to mass media and communication management. The library is using Koha software which provides instant access facility for any book, by title, author, publisher, or ISBN number. The library also subscribes to a wide assortment of national and international newspapers, magazines and journals, besides some other publications. The library also subscribes to two online databases – TVAD Index and United News of India.
The audio-visual library has a comprehensive collection of Indian & foreign classic films, documentaries, radio & television programmes in English, Hindi and other Foreign / Regional languages.
The Viman Nagar Campus is situated inside the city limits, yet far from the absolute chaos of city life. Housed in a building, which won an award* for its design, the campus for the undergraduate media students is well suited to their needs and learning potential.

The full-time programme is spread over a period of three years, and spaced out over six semesters of six months each, incorporating theoretical lectures, hands-on practical sessions, tutorials, classroom presentations, take-home assignments, sporting & cultural events, field trips, study tours, projects, and internships.

Students, in order to supplement classroom learning with on-field exposure generally take up internships between the semesters. As a part of the project module, the students are required to do three development sector internships and two industry internships.
A development sector internship provides students with direct exposure to issues at the grassroot level and provides them with the experience required for sensitised media professionals. Industry internships provide students with direct exposure to the media industry and help them hone their skills and provide them with work experience.
The SCMC is driven by its commitment to providing the industry with skilled and trained media professionals adept in all fields of communication.
The SCMC's method of instructing its students in both the theoretical and practical aspects of mass media & communication management has produced students who not only excel academically but also respond swiftly to professional challenges. Though the medium of instruction is English, certain case studies used by individual resource persons may be in other languages (primarily Hindi).

Students having completed 10+2 (or 10+3 Diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education) in any discipline from any recognised Board / Council / University with a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ST) aggregate marks, or equivalent grades, are eligible to seek admission.
